Why chainstitch is different
Most embroidery you see is flat — needle in, needle out, repeat. Chainstitch works differently. Each stitch physically loops through the one before it, building up a raised chain of thread that catches light, holds color longer, and looks unlike anything a commercial machine produces.
Each loop is hand-guided
A modern embroidery machine punches stitches automatically. Chainstitch is guided by hand — the speed, tension, and direction are controlled stitch by stitch. No two pieces are exactly alike.
Done on vintage machines
The machine used for chainstitch dates back to the 1950s. Modern commercial embroidery equipment can't replicate it. Finding someone who can run one — and run it well — is genuinely rare.
Built to last decades
The interlocking loop structure means chainstitch holds up through years of washing. The texture doesn't flatten, the colors stay vivid. It's why vintage varsity jackets still look great 50 years later.
